Indian Doctor Summoned to High Court for Practising Gay Conversion Therapy

A doctor in India has been summoned by the Delhi High Court for falsely claiming to be able to “cure” gay men and women, reports India Times.

Dr. PK Gupta told his patients that homosexuality was a “genetic mental disorder” which could be treated.

Gupta had already had a complaint against him in 2016, wherein the Delhi Medical Council barred him from practicing. He could now face a year in prison if found in violation of the council’s ruling.

A magistrate from the high court said in a statement: “Accordingly, it is clear that the treatment given by doctors as a part of ‘conversion therapy’ is not recognised either by the medicine or by the legislation.” They also mentioned the Supreme Court’s recent historic decision to decriminalise homosexuality across the country.
