Inmate Who Murdered Trans Woman Sentenced To Death
A man convicted of the murder of his trans bunkmate, Carmen Guerrero, has been sentenced to death. Miguel Crespo promised to kill trans inmate Carmen Guerrero if they sent him in the same cell as her and after just eight hours of being in the same cell, he followed through, according to ‘LGBTQ Nation’.
Both inmates pleaded to not be put together but correction officers ignored both their pleas. Guerrero was found tied up, strangled and choked to death after eight hours.
Crespo was sentenced to death after they found him guilty. In court, he made sure it was known that he is not gay and explicitly asked not to be roomed with LGBTQ inmates, saying “I had a restriction not to be housed with a [gay expletive].”
“To make things worse, during and since the procedures, all sides – the State, the defense, and some media outlets – have referred to Carmen by her former name and gender, despite the Assistant State Attorney saying “everyone referred to [Carmen] as she” and that “by all appearance, [Carmen] presented as a woman”,” the article writes.
