Kindergarten Teacher in China Fired After Attending LGBT+ Event
A gay kindergarten teacher in China has been fired after the school was made aware that he attended an LGBT+ event, now the teacher is suing the school, reports Reuters.
The principal of the school told the teacher (who wishes to remain anonymous) that he had to be let go because some parents may not want their children taught by a gay man.
“I hope that I can use this case to push forward Chinese society to be more balanced and accepting,” the teacher said.
He was let go without significant severance or payment, he also had a 10 percent stake in the school which he lost.
“The main reason we filed this case is not just as a labour dispute but to make the gay community more visible to a wider group of people,” said the teacher’s lawyer, Tang Xiangqian. “To let more people realise that they can easily be victims of discrimination.”
