Mattel Just Launched A Gender-Inclusive Doll Line

Although Mattel is probably most commonly known for its feminine Barbie Dolls, as of now they have decided to do something a little different.

Mattel has launched a line of gender-inclusive dolls called “Creatable World”. This line is all about customization, whether that being hair, clothes or accessories. Different options are presented to be more feminine and others more masculine allowing kids to combine elements any way they like.

"We see this line as an opportunity for us to open up that dialogue around what dolls are for and who dolls are for," said Kim Culmone, senior vice president of Mattel Fashion Doll Design.

"And also as the world begins the celebrate the positive impact of inclusivity, we absolutely fundamentally believed it was time to launch a doll line free of labels and free of rules for kids.”

Monica Dreger, head of consumer insights at Mattel, told Time Magazine: “There were a couple of gender-creative kids who told us that they dreaded Christmas Day because they knew whatever they got under the Christmas tree, it wasn’t made for them.

“This is the first doll that you can find under the tree and see is for them because it can be for anyone.”
