Patti LuPone to Guest Star in New Season of Pose
Broadway legend Patti LuPone is set to join the new season of the critically acclaimed series Pose, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
“[LuPone] loves the show and we wrote this part, so she’s coming to play with us in a couple of weeks,” series creator Ryan Murphy said.
The new season will time jump to the 1990s and begin with the release of Madonna’s Vogue, a song heavily inspired by ballroom culture.
“(We have) a very good relationship with Madonna thus far,” Murphy said, although he ruled out an appearance by the megastar. “We haven’t tried to do too much of my typical stunt-casting [on Pose], and I don’t think we will, but I always like to talk to Madonna.”
Instead Vogue will serve as a thematic launchpad for the characters: “It will spark a lot of new aspirations and dreams for the people within the ball scene,” explained producer Janet Mock.
As the series progresses more into the 1990s, “We’re going to be leaning into what was happening sociopolitically in New York,” added Murphy, “and so we’re going to be addressing Act Up and access to medical care for individuals who are living with HIV.”
