Polish Actor Aged 100 Comes Out As Gay
Polish actor Witold Sadowy has come out as gay while he was celebrating his 100th birthday.
The former theatre actor came out publicly, saying he was “born different”.
“For me the most important thing is the survival of the truth,” he said. “I am proud that I am an honest man. I didn’t get married, and I didn’t have children, something I really regret.
“But I was born different. I’m gay. Now I have said everything, as in confession.”
The actor was born in 1920 and lived through the Nazi occupation in Poland where homosexuals were persecuted.
As ‘Metro’ reports, even today in Poland being LGBT+ is difficult, with numerous towns having declared themselves free of ‘LGBT+ propaganda’, “after 100 local municipalities signed a pledge, with a third of the country claiming it’s an ‘LGBT free’ zone.”
LGBT magazine Replika wrote a post on Facebook praising the actor’s “bold move”. “At this gloomy time we have for you a truly unusual, positive message. Coming out at the age of 100! Sadowy is associated with Warsaw all his life. Mr Witold, congratulations! And we wish 200 years!” the post wrote.
