Pope Francis tells gay man God loves him unconditionally

Juan Carlos Cruz was visiting the Vatican City over the weekend to address the Chilean clergy sex abuse scandal. Cruz was one of the victims. He met privately with the Pope, later telling Spanish newspaper El Pais he said: “Juan Carlos, that you are gay does not matter. God made you like this and loves you like this and I don’t care. The Pope loves you like this. You have to be happy with who you are.”

He said the first thing the Pope said in their meeting was: “I want to apologize, in the name of the Pope and the Church for everything you have gone through.

“I apologize for me, because I was the cause of this situation that caused you so much pain in these last months.”

The two discussed in detail his experience of abuse, “I cried and he looked hurt,” Crus said. “He put his hand on my shoulder and said ‘Cry, baby.’”
