Reality Dating Show in India Airs First-Ever Gay Episode

An Indian reality dating show is airing an episode with a gay contender for the first time in the country’s history, reports NBC news.

The show is called ‘Elevator Pitch’, each contestant has the length of an elevator ride to pitch themselves to a bachelor to get a date. Atmaj Vyas is the first gay bachelor to ride the elevator and have ten men try to woo him.

“There were guys who were making style statements, talking about life and even one who was actually coming out to his family via the show. It really doesn’t get better than that,” Vyas said.

“The main premise of the show is to find someone you connect with and would like to go on a date with.

“So, in that regards, yes, I did. The boyfriend part, well, let’s just say there’s a lot more that goes into that.”

India decriminalised homosexuality just a few months ago, prompting LGBT+ activists across South East Asia to demand the same. This kind of media representation is a huge leap forward for the country.
