Study Finds That Mailing Home HIV Tests Helps Detect More Infections
According to a US government study, mailing free home HIV tests offers potentially a better strategy for detecting infections.
According to ‘New York Post’ the experiment recruited 2,600 men. Half of them were sent four test kits and the other half were sent a link to local testing services. Overall 25 infections were detected in the self-testing group as opposed to 11 in the other group.
Over 70% of participants who’s results came out positive, sought treatment.
“Self-testing is an important option for some people and in some situations, it saves time, offers privacy, and reaches people who may not be able to or willing to access existing testing services,” said Robin MacGowan, the lead author and a researcher at the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
