Teenage Lesbian Killed In Apparent Homophobic Attack
A 17-year-old girl, Ashanti Posey, was shot to death in a possible anti-gay hate crime in Tennessee. The teenager was driving in her car when she was shot and killed while leaving a neighborhood after a small marijuana sale.
As ‘LGBTQ Nation’ reports, Posey was in a relationship with another girl and was also an advocate for the LGBT+ community. “This was out of jealousy because my daughter was openly gay and in a happy relationship with a young lady for two years,” her mother said in a statement. “Sometimes being different is not accepted in society, it’s just not.”
Although no arrests have been made yet, Amber Posey claims that the attackers contacted the family shortly after the incident telling them that “they had shot her and killed her”.
“I don’t care if you gave the person the gun, if you gave them gas money to get where my baby was, I will bring you down,” Amber Posey said.
“My daughter was a caring child, it was just that simple,” Amber Posey said of her daughter. “If you believed in what she believed in, you were her family.”
Police don’t yet know if the shooters were on foot or if they were driving and they are asking that anyone with information call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
