Top 5 Tips for Finding LGBTQ+ Inclusive Organizations

By Lenaic Couderc, Associate Analyst, Moody’s

Do your research. Look out for diversity policies, awards, and memberships to LGBTQ+ charities and LGBTQ+ networks. Companies will often list these on their websites, giving you a sense of whether LGBTQ+ inclusion is something the company cares about.

Check whether what they say is actually true. If an organization really cares, they’ll be doing more than just turning their logo rainbow once a year. They’ll have given to the community, whether that is through donating to an LGBTQ+ charity, having a dedicated LGBTQ+ recruitment program, asking for pronouns or having training programs to educate employees.

Ask questions. During the recruitment process, find out what the company is doing for LGBTQ+ inclusion. You’ll get a pretty good idea from the answers you get whether the company genuinely cares about LGBTQ+ inclusion.

Reach out. Whether this is through friends, a professional LGBTQ+ network or during company events, there’s nothing better than employees themselves to get an idea of what being LGBTQ+ in the company means.

Meet the team before you join. LGBTQ+ inclusion is ultimately about how you feel; getting along with your colleagues will be key here.
