Trans Reform Passed in Uruguay
Uruguay has passed ground-breaking new reforms, granting rights to trans people, reports ABC News.
The new law, just passed by Congress and already approved by the Senate will include a new process of self-identification on official documents, essentially allowing trans people to list their preferred gender and change their name without the approval of a judge.
The law states that trans people are allowed the “free development of personality according to their chosen gender identity, irrespective of their biological, genetic, anatomical, morphological (or) hormonal.”
The new also creates a pension for trans people born before 1975 and requires one percent of all government jobs to be filled by a trans professional over the next fifteen years.
The new law was met with applause and standing ovation when it was passed by Congress.
