Two Stabbed at Florida Pride Event
Two people have been stabbed during Fort Lauderdale’s gay pride events on Sunday, reports The Miami Herald.
Police have clarified the attack took place at 6.30pm on Seebreeze Boulevard, but that the incident was most likely not homophobic in nature.
“We believe this was an isolated incident, which began as an altercation between two parties,” said police spokesperson Officer Casey Liening.
“This was not an attack or an active killer situation.”
The two people who were attacked are currently recovering in hospital, both expected to make full recoveries.
“There is no indication this was a premeditated act of terrorism designed to cause harm or fear to the South Florida LGBTQ community. All indications are that this was a dispute between disagreeing parties,” the pride organisers said in a statement.
Florida’s gay community remains on high alert after the 2016 Pulse massacre.
