Women’s Sports Beat Men’s Sports When It Comes To Being Gay-Friendly

You can’t win a championship without gays on your team,” said US women’s soccer team player Megan Rapinoe. “It’s never been done before, ever.”

In the 2019 women’s World Cup there were more than 40 openly gay players and coaches, which is more the double the number of 2015. On the contrary, none of the players in the men’s World Cup are openly gay.

The same applies to the NHL which has never had an openly gay player as opposed to the NWHL who has may out players.

In the NBA Jason Collins became the first and only gay athlete in the major ‘US league when he came out in 2013. But in the WNBA many players identify as gay.

In addition, in the 2016 Rio Olympics in total 55 athletes are openly out, 44 of which are women.
