Our LGBT+ / Inclusion Network

​​Who we are:

The EMEA Pride Network was formed in 2017, with the aim of representing the LGBTQ+ community in Mizuho EMEA in a visible and empowered manner and create a welcoming community for employees who identify as LGBTQ+ or allies.

We are an active & enthusiastic network, collaborating with all Mizuho Pride networks globally, as well as with other employee Inclusion networks.

Mission Statement:

Promote greater awareness and acceptance to embed LGBTQ+ inclusive values in the workplace and allow staff to bring their whole selves to work. In so doing, drive higher levels of motivation, satisfaction and productivity and drive customer engagement.

Aims & Objectives:

• Establish a network across all Mizuho EMEA locations

• Provide clear visible LGBTQ+ representation, via events, communications and advocacy

• Create a One Mizuho Allies programme in conjunction with Stonewall

• Provision of advice, guidance and resources to colleagues

• Promote Mizuho as an employer of choice for members of the LGBTQ+ community

Within Japan:

• Gold rating on the PRIDE index by work with Pride for five years in a row, click here – An index that recognizes our initiatives to create an inclusive environment for colleagues from the LGBTQ+ community.

• Member in the Bloomberg Financial Services Gender-Equality Index (GEI) since 2018

• Participation in Tokyo Rainbow Pride - Mizuho has been a sponsor of Tokyo Rainbow Pride since 2017. This annual event aims to create a society in which people of any sexual orientation or gender identity can live openly, with pride and dignity. Mizuho employees march through Shibuya in the parade, waving custom Mizuho rainbow flags.

• LGBTQ+ groups and networks - Mizuho has joined LGBTQ+ Finance, a network of financial institutions that work together to promote LGBTQ+ – friendly work environments in the financial industry.

• LGBTQ+ advisory service - Mizuho offers both internal and external advisory services for employees. These services accept inquiries and provide advice for LGBTQ+ employees as well as their coworkers.

• Extension of spousal benefits to same–sex partners - Same–sex partners are treated as equivalent to spouses to the extent possible given legal and tax limitations in Japan. Employees with same–sex partners are able to make use of benefits such as special leave for a wedding ceremony, or for caring for a sick or aging member of their partner's family, and are also eligible for a monetary gift from the company in honour of special occasions such as a wedding.

• Changing employee mindsets - Mizuho is working to raise awareness and change employee mindsets, by providing internal training aimed at promoting understanding of the LGBTQ+ community.

Within London:

• Allies campaign - Mizuho is working to raise awareness by providing internal training aimed at promoting how an individual can be a positive and active supporter of the LGBTQ+ community.

• Transitioning at Work Policy- This policy shows our commitment to welcoming and supporting trans individuals inclusive of those with non-binary identities and in removing any potential barriers to their recruitment, promotion and retention. Providing a working environment that is free from discrimination, harassment or victimisation because of gender identity is an important step in ensuring that trans employees are respected and valued.

• Family Friendly Policies - Enhanced Company Pay: for adoption, maternity and shared parental leave to 26 weeks at full pay (for eligible employees).
