Danaher is one of those companies whose name you may not know but whose instruments you have almost certainly been diagnosed by. Around 60,000 associates in roughly 50 countries work across its life sciences, diagnostics and biotechnology businesses — Cepheid, Beckman Coulter, Leica Biosystems, SCIEX, Radiometer, IDT, Abcam and more. On myGwork the group currently lists more than 1,150 live roles, plus 10 internships, 10 early-careers positions and an apprenticeship.
Danaher's employee networks are called Associate Resource Groups, and the LGBTQ+ one is LGBTQ+ Friends. It sits alongside Asian Descent + Friends, Black + Friends, Latin Descent + Friends and Women + Friends, with a Caregivers + Friends group added most recently. Across 2025 the ARGs collectively hosted more than a hundred global events.
The detail that stands out is an LGBTQ+ Friends Danaher Benefits Guide — a document that sets out how the company's benefits specifically support LGBTQ+ associates and their families. Most employers publish a benefits handbook and leave LGBTQ+ people to work out for themselves which parts apply. Writing it down is a small act with a large effect. Alongside it: eight weeks of fully paid parental leave, surrogacy reimbursement of up to $10,000, and Maven Clinic access covering fertility, adoption and parental support.
Raj Thapar, a Strategic Development and Innovation Manager at Mammotome, one of Danaher's operating companies, is direct about the difference it made. He had not been out at work for most of his career before joining. "At Danaher," he says, "I was out from the start, and it's been such a welcoming environment."
Notably, Thapar was recruited through Reaching Out MBA, the LGBTQ+ MBA organisation — evidence that the early-careers pipeline is being built deliberately rather than hoped for.
Danaher runs on the Danaher Business System, a continuous-improvement method the company describes as both a system and the culture that makes it work. In practice it means capability-building is structural: over 3,300 certified DBS practitioners and trainers, roughly 600 new certifications last year, plus the Development for Growth programme and Danaher Go for internal mobility. If you join one operating company, moving to another is a designed pathway, not a favour.
