Girl sketches the life of 15-year-old Lara (Victor Polster), whose biggest dream is to make a career as a ballerina. But her body is struggling, because Lara was born as a boy. However, together with her father and younger brother she tries to defy the world.
Debuting director Lukas Dhont was awarded the prestigious Camera d'Or in Cannes, the young protagonist Victor Polster won the prize for the Best Interpretation in Un Certain Regard, the international press awarded Girl with the Prix Fipresci and the film also won the Queer Palm. At the world premiere during the Cannes Film Festival, the film was rewarded with a long standing ovation.
