The Business & Data Analyst - Data Strategy position is part the Marsh Data Services (MDS) team serving the Operations and Technology business. The successful candidate will support the analysis of existing and prospective transactional and analytical systems from a data perspective to support transformation efforts and business need. Key to the candidate’s success will be their ability to dig into data to answer business questions, determine ways forward, and effectively communicate with a broad group of business, operations, and technology stakeholders.

The objective is to build a team of topflight data management professionals that can sit at the intersection of business and operational users and technology developers to ensure that systems adhere to industry best practices while delivering against complex business requirements. The scope includes all data domains, data types, data structures, regions, classifications, systems and users.

This is a hands-on position that requires a willingness to dig deep into system processes and data assets to create knowledge bases that will allow users and systems to operate more efficiently and derive more value from our data assets. This position involves communication and collaboration with a broad set of stakeholders.

We will count on you to:

  • Work with business users to understand their questions, pain points, requirements, and desired outcomes

  • Solve problems – work with broad groups of stakeholders to find ways forward in delivering data assets and capabilities

  • Perform data analysis understand, interpret and compare disparate data sources in support of better outcomes across integrations, KPIs, analytical applications and ad-hoc business questions.

  • Define transformations, perform source-to-target mappings and guide the relevant IT teams on data integration to data masters

  • Work with business and operational stakeholders to coordinate user testing and data validation for integration of data to masters

  • Help to ideate on metrics and Data Quality rules with regard to available data assets and in connection with identified business use cases

What you need to have: 

  • 3+ years of experience in Business Analysis, Data Analysis, Data Management, and Business Process Management

  • Experience writing SQL statements and working with different database structures (e.g. Hadoop Hive, Mongo DB, Oracle, Athena) and various Data Governance (particularly Informatica), Data Quality, Data Virtualization (e.g. Dremio) and Data Visualization tools (particularly Qlik)

  • A deep and abiding appreciation for all things data—its role, impact, challenges, and potential with an organization.

  • A strong willingness to learn a new domain--getting into its deepest details and being hands-on.

  • Experience working with business and operations to understand business processes and business requirements and outcomes, working collaboratively across organizational teams and levels

  • Experience with relevant industry-standard data tools (see below for current in-use tooling)

  • Familiarity with agile software development lifecycle and experience working in an agile environment

What makes you stand out?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Information Systems

  • Understanding of information (e.g. sources, identifiers, standards, glossaries, and taxonomies) within the insurance industry data domain. 

  • Familiarity with data modeling (e.g. ERWin) and design methods and tools

  • Experience with the Informatica suite of Data Management and Governance tools

The applicable base salary range for this role is $42,400 to $90,500.

The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
