Health & Benefits Associate Director

As a Health & Benefits Associate Director, you will be at the forefront of managing relationships and projects for large, complex clients and will leverage your experience as a benefits expert to make recommendations on plan design and strategy on the full array of Health and Benefit programs. You will participate in new business activities and the creation of new intellectual capital. You will position yourself to grow into a senior relationship management and/or leadership role by serving as the pivotal point of all projects and working alongside industry experts on leading edge solutions.

The Role

Note: Role may be work-from-home and based remotely anywhere in Canada and will report into the Calgary market


  • Provide valued-added consulting expertise on large, sophisticated projects including health and benefit plan design, pricing, benchmarking studies and negotiations, plan renewals and vendor analysis and management
  • Contribute to projects within both the Specialty and annual plan management areas such as; health management/wellness, disability/absence management, pharmacy and claims audits
  • Serve as lead project manager on Health and Benefits projects, materially contributing to project plan and budget creation and leading the team on delivery; ensuring progress against established objectives, budgets, timelines, deliverables and quality standards
  • Serve as lead day-to-day contact for clients, managing the contracting/scope of work process as well as managing client expectations and raising appropriate issues to Senior Consultants and Client Relationship Directors
  • Develop relationships with client contacts through effective communication and efficient, quality execution of projects
  • Support the generation of new business by participating in prospecting opportunities with new clients as part of a broader team
  • Serve as people manager for a team of Analysts and/or Senior Analysts
  • Build strong relationships internally across markets and collaborate effectively on cross-functional teams
  • Review analytical work, mentor and develop Analysts and Senior Analysts
  • Contribute to the development of new intellectual capital
  • Meet revenue and billable hour goals established with your manager

The Requirements

  • 7+ years’ experience and success in the design/management of health and benefit plans gained in a consulting, brokerage or carrier environment
  • Strong financial skills; prior experience in health and benefits pricing, underwriting or valuation work preferred
  • Proven experience creating project plans and successfully leading teams in execution of the project against plan guidelines
  • Demonstrated success in managing client issues and relationships; some experience in growing relationships with current clients
  • Polished and well developed oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and team skills
  • Self-starter attitude and ability to work with ambiguity in a fast-paced environment
  • Flexibility and proven ability to diagnose and resolve issues
  • Strong analytical, creative and integrative skills; interest and ability to think beyond the task at hand and understand how one’s work fits into the broader landscape
  • Experience training/mentoring junior staff
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills including MS Excel and MS PowerPoint
  • Availability to travel on an as needed basis
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Pursuit of CEBS designation
  • Provincial Life and Health Insurance licenses required within 90 days of joining
