WorkPride 2023: Community-in-focus panels for ethnicity: Asian

Part of our Community-In-Focus talks, this panel will explore the experiences of LGBTQ+ people in the Asian community. Join us as our panellists discuss their lives, growing up, challenges within their communities and intersectionality whilst also sharing with us lessons on how we can be better allies, and have a better appreciation of cultures and backgrounds other than our own.

I also received First Class Honours for my undergraduate degree, during which I was a Domus Scholar at Pembroke College, Oxford, and was awarded all of Pembroke College's Law subject prizes.

As the Senior Manager of Alumni Clubs and Events in Advancement at London Business School, Satouka plays a pivotal role in developing strategies and activities to engage the school's extensive network of alumni clubs. She excels in building relationships with key volunteers and alumni, fostering a sense of community and support within the network. Satouka's passion for inclusivity and diversity is reflected in her role as the Co-chair of the LGBTQ+ staff network at London Business School. She actively works towards creating an inclusive and supportive environment for her community within the institution. Her leadership in this capacity showcases her commitment to fostering a workplace where everyone can bring their authentic selves. Satouka is currently completing her second bachelors, a BSc (Hons) in Anthropology, from the University of Kent and pursued additional education at London Business School, specializing in Sustainability Leadership and Corporate Responsibility. Her academic achievements and extracurricular involvement as a student ambassador and academic peer mentor highlight her dedication to academic excellence and supporting others in their educational journeys.

    Nikki Phinyapincha (she/her) is the founder of TransTalents Consulting Group, Thailand's first LGBTQ+ inclusive workplace consulting firm, aiming to help transform the future of inclusive businesses by empowering LGBTQI+ employees through an ESG and sustainability framework. She helps multisectoral businesses to reframe their diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) policy and practices to thrive profitably and purposefully. She believes in the power of communication to connect and collaborate people for "all" people. As a former PR director for 8 years specializing in branding and communication, she becomes a DE&I speaker, advocating for transgender professional leadership on both the national and international stage, challenging the status quo of traditional social stigma and the business community. She is also the chair of the PRCA APAC Pride Network, the country director of the ASEAN Youth Advocate Network, Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative Professional Fellows Program (YSEALI PFP) 2022 awarded by US government and recently the Future List 100 by Koktail magazine. She also plays basketball and competes in the Spartan Race, fills her brain with people and power management books/podcasts, and has a network obsessed with growth.

    Suraj Bhanot is currently a Senior Manager in the Corporate Communications group at Vertex Pharmaceuticals. Based in London, he joined Vertex in January 2020 and leads strategic corporate, brand and internal communications for our Northern Europe and Australia region, with a key focus on the Nordic region and our R&D site in Oxford, U.K. He has experience in global pharmaceutical corporate affairs and brings an in-depth understanding and execution of global, European, and U.K. brand launches in multiple therapeutic areas. Prior to Vertex, he worked at Celgene and at Weber Shandwick. Suraj is co-lead of the International PRIDE employee resource network (ERN) at Vertex, having assumed the role in 2021. He has led on driving and delivering the PRIDE ERN plan for the international region. For LGBTQ+ History month in 2022, Suraj delivered an all-employee panel discussion on the importance of learning about LGBTQ+ history. The event was held jointly with our VIBE (Vertex Includes Boundless Ethnicities) ERN to highlight the key themes of allyship and intersectionality for the PRIDE ERN in 2021. The event featured personal testimony from two senior leaders at Vertex, demonstrating the importance placed by the leadership on these important milestones for the LGBTQ+ community. Suraj continued to deliver educational speaker events for employees throughout 2021, with their corporate partner myGwork. As part of this role Suraj is a member of Vertex’s ERN Advisory Committee, which supports Vertex’s wider inclusion, diversity and equity (ID&E) initiatives. Outside of Vertex, Suraj served in volunteer leadership positions for Pride in London — initially as Public Affairs Officer and then as the Head of Political Engagement. Pride in London is a volunteer-based group that organizes the U.K.’s biggest, most diverse pride. They provide a platform for London’s LGBTQ+ communities — to raise awareness of LGBTQ+ issues and campaign for the freedom that will allow them to live their lives on a genuinely equal footing.
