American Women Are More Prejudiced Against Lesbians Than Men, New Study Reveals
A new study, which tested people from 23 countries on their attitudes about gays and lesbians has revealed some startling information.
In the U.S.A. men and women “did not significantly differ in their attitudes toward gay men,” but women are more prejudiced against lesbians than men, ‘LGBTQ Nation’ reports. The same result was found in most countries.
“Only in China, France, and Italy did men report more negative attitudes toward lesbian women,” researchers say in the journal ‘Social Psychology and Personality Science’.
None of the countries had a “more positive attitude” towards gay men although in some countries differences were small.
The study also revealed that Western countries were more accepting of gays and lesbians in general. Homosexuality was viewed most favourably in Spain, Belgium, Great Britain, Sweden, and Canada and least favourably in Russia, Hungary, Turkey, Peru, and South Korea.
The countries included in the study were Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Peru, Poland, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, and the United States.
