Arsenal Ladies’ Star Player Vivienne Miedema Explains What Could Kick Homophobia Out Of Football
Arsenal ladies’ player and open lesbian Vivienne Miedema explain in a recent interview what needs to be done for homosexuality to be less stigmatised in football.
She believes that if a well-respected player comes out, that would help kick homophobia out of football.
“If someone was to come out and that player is fully respected, from there on it would be easy for a lot of other boys to come out as well,” she told 'The Guardian'.
“I think you should do what you want and let people do whatever they feel good with.”
Miedema added: “Why does it change the player if he is gay or not? Why does it change the player if he or she is from Holland, from Africa, from Australia? We are all the same so why can’t we just accept how we are and who we are and go from there. Just enjoy football and enjoy life, that is how easy it is for me anyway.”
Currently, there are no openly gay football players in any of the four leagues of English professional football.
