Lesbian UFC fighter Jessica Andrade sets record for most female UFC wins

UFC fighter Jessica Andrade, openly part of the LGBTQ+ community, now leads as the woman with the most wins in the UFC following her split decision victory against Marina Rodriguez during UFC 300 on Saturday night.

Andrade clinched the victory despite facing strong strikes and several choke attempts from Rodriguez, countering with powerful blows in the final two rounds. The fight concluded with scores of 28-29, 29-28, and 29-28, marking Andrade’s second consecutive win and her 17th overall in the UFC, according to ‘Out Sports’.

This victory places Andrade ahead in the record books, surpassing the previous record for UFC wins held by a woman, a record she shared with Amanda Nunes, another openly LGBTQ+ fighter.

The achievement adds to Andrade's remarkable UFC career spanning over a decade, including a memorable victory against Rose Namajunas in 2019 with one of the most striking knockouts in UFC history to claim the Strawweight championship. Andrade also holds the title for the most appearances by a woman in the UFC and is distinguished for winning matches across three different weight divisions. Notably, in 2013, she took part in the first-ever UFC bout featuring two openly LGBTQ+ fighters, facing Liz Carmouche.

Following her latest win, Andrade expressed her excitement and anticipation for a title match against Zhang Weili, the current UFC Strawweight champion who previously ended Andrade’s championship run in 2019.

“I think we both [thought] the winner of this fight was the one that should be next for the fight for the title,”  Andrade conveyed through a translator at the post-fight press conference.“ I hope to have a shot at the title.”

Andrade also shared the significance of her win at the landmark UFC 300 event, ranking it as an exceptional moment in her life. “I think this ranks up there, out of 100, it ranks 1,000. I mean, it’s all the way up there [in] moments of my life,” she said.

While it remains to be seen if Andrade will get her desired rematch with Weili for the championship, her accomplished performance on Saturday night and her new status as the woman with the most UFC wins undoubtedly strengthen her case for another title shot.
