Man Charged With Hate Crime After Accusations Of Strangling A Trans Teen To Death
A man has been charged with a hate crime after accusations that he killed a trans teen in Vancouver, Washington.
17-year-old Nikki Kuhnhausen had been missing for months before her remains were found. David Bogdanov was arrested in connection to her death. He was facing a second-degree murder charge when prosecutors filed a count of “malicious harassment”, ‘CNN’ reports.
Malicious harassment is Washington's hate crime statute.
“David and Nikki went to a residence in the county and at that time (Nikki) confirmed to him that she was biologically male. David gave a statement saying that made him really, really uncomfortable and disturbed him, and he asked Nikki to get out of his van and she walked away,” Vancouver police Lt. Tom Ryan told reporters.
Bogdanov was held without bail since his arrest. During a bail review hearing, a judge set his bail at $750,000.
