Meryl Streep’s daughter and ‘Gilded Age’ star Louisa Jacobson comes out

June 25, 2024

Louisa Jacobson, Meryl Streep’s youngest daughter, is sharing about her sexual identity.

According to ‘US Magazine’, at 33, Jacobson, who stars in HBO’s The Gilded Age, posted her first official Instagram photos with partner Anna Blundell on Saturday, June 22. Celebrating their relationship publicly during Pride Month, the actress wrote, “Blessed to be entering the Joyful New Era bb,” accompanied by heart, fire, and rainbow-flag emojis.

Jacobson’s caption referenced a recent New York Times story titled ‘We’re Entering a Joyful New Era of Lesbian Fashion,’ which she included in her photo carousel along with a selfie with Blundell and a solo shot of herself in a loose-fitting black suit.

“LIVE queen!” commented Ariana DeBose, while Derek Blasberg added, “Happy pride.” Fans were also thrilled with the news, with one writing, “COMING OUT AT YOUR MOM’S BIRTHDAY IS SO ICONIC.” (Streep celebrated her 75th birthday over the weekend.)

Blundell, a producer of high-fashion photoshoots for brands like Versace and Chloe, had featured Jacobson on her Instagram last December. Jacobson replied to the post, writing, “OMFG ILYSM,” to which Blundell responded with “ily,” internet shorthand for “I love you.”

In late May, Blundell posted a photo of herself smiling at a social event, captioning it, “Life is so fun and cool & I’m the luckiest!!!” Jacobson replied, “Must be nice to be so gorgeous.”

Like her Oscar-winning mother, Jacobson graduated from the Yale School of Drama and initially worked in theatre before moving to screen roles. She has portrayed the socially conscious socialite Marian Brook in The Gilded Age since 2022. Last year, she and her co-stars, including Cynthia Nixon and Christine Baranski, received a Screen Actors Guild nomination for their ensemble work on the series.

Earlier this year, Jacobson told Us Weekly about the upcoming third season of The Gilded Age, saying, "I think season 3 is just going to be a continuation of the same delicious drama. But maybe with a little more power and edge." She added, “That’s what I’m hoping,” and urged creator Julian Fellowes to “take notes!”

Working on the show, which depicts the nouveau-riche Russell family and their old-money neighbours, the Van Rhijns, in 1880s New York City, has been a learning experience for Jacobson, the youngest of Streep and sculptor Don Gummer’s four children. (Streep announced in October 2023 that she and Gummer, who have three other children, Henry, 44, Mamie, 40, and Grace, 38, were separated and had been for more than six years.)

“I chose to bury my desire to act,” Jacobson revealed to Vanity Fair in February 2022. “I needed to prove to myself, my family, and my peers that somehow I was different.”

Jacobson was drawn to her Gilded Age character because of their similarities. “[Marian] doesn’t want her life handed to her. She wants to pave her own path,” Jacobson explained, adding, “She’s a person who doesn’t let the shiny exterior fool her.”
