Pride In London Awarded Funding To Deliver Celebrations Until 2027

Pride in London receive up to £625,000 from City Hall to deliver Pride celebrations up to and including 2027, the mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has announced.

“I’m delighted to announce this funding to support Pride in London to deliver our capital’s world famous Pride celebrations for the next five years,” Khan said. “London is a beacon of inclusiveness around the world and that is in part due to the powerful impact that the Pride march of solidarity and celebration has had on our society over the last five decades. Pride in London has set out ambitious plans to work closely with all LGBTQI+ communities to put on an inclusive event over the coming years and I’m looking forward to seeing this delivered.”

According to Gay Times, all bids submitted were assessed by an advisory group made up of representatives from LGBTQ+ communities.

Funding will be used to deliver the parade, as well as events and entertainment in Trafalgar Square. The city recently celebrated what is believed to be the largest Pride in British history. This year was the 50th anniversary of the UK’s first Pride march, with veterans from the Gay Liberation Front leading the parade.

“Pride in London is proud in this momentous year of celebrating the 50th anniversary of the first Pride in the UK to be awarded funding by City Hall. This will allow us to continue delivering the capital’s Pride parade from 2023,” said Christopher Joell-Deshields, the Executive Director of Pride in London. “Our dedicated team of volunteers look forward to engaging with LGBT+ communities to build better, ensuring that our platform amplifies national and global LGBT+ issues, celebrates our communities’ successes and empowers LGBT+ individuals through our values of visibility, unity and equality. We look forward to announcing the date for 2023 in the coming weeks.”
