St. James's Place Launch the First Trans-Run Financial Advice Practice in the UK

In celebration of Pride Month, St. James's Place Financial Adviser Academy speaks to Jamie Lowe, Partner of True Self Wealth at St. James’s Place. They discuss the launch of the UK's very first advice practice ran by the trans community, displaying dedication to creating authentic and inclusive spaces. myGwork is a proud partner of St. James's Place, who passionately believe in striving for equality and LGBTQ+ inclusion in the workplace. We stand with them in their consistently progressive values as they continue to make milestone achievements for underrepresented communities, both in the finance sector and the wider business circle.

The first trans-run financial advice practice in the UK, True Self Wealth aims to provide trustworthy financial advice while embracing authenticity and supporting individuals who have faced challenges in their own financial journeys.

Jamie explains: “My real turning point was when I came out as trans. I’d always been out and open about my LGBTQ+ status, and I felt gradually more accepted in the world. But as somebody transitioning, life became hard again.”

Through True Self Wealth, Jamie not only provides financial guidance but also acts as a beacon of support and understanding for those on similar paths. “I realised that I’m somebody in a really privileged and educated position, so if the general public are facing the same challenges that I did, I have a responsibility to help them.”

With a focus on building trust, Jamie's practice provides comprehensive and reliable financial advice to clients, empowering them to confidently navigate their financial futures: “True Self Wealth is there to be accessible, and make financial advice friendly. It’s a place where we can all talk about ourselves, our lifestyle, without judgement, from an educated background.”

Jamie also highlights the power or building your own career path – especially in the financial services profession:

“The problem with working for someone else is that you don’t get to tell your full and authentic story. Before, I felt I needed to stay within someone else’s rules, whereas I’ve just created my own. I’ve created my proposition, I can decide who I want to work with, how it works, what story I tell, and how I approach people.

I know what I need to do to be successful and help people, and I can control every part of my life to get to that.”
