Students In Canterbury University Wear Pink Shirts In Solidarity After Fellow Student Becomes Victim Of Homophobic Attack
Students at Canterbury University wore pink shirts to show solidarity with an LGBT+ student who was the victim of a homophobic attack.
The student was wearing a pink shirt that triggered a stranger who verbally abused him and then punched him in the face.
After the incident, fellow students created the #PinkShirtMono where students were encouraged to wear pink shirts to the bar where the incident occurred.
“After a recent UCSA Noticeboard post where a student bravely shared how they were subject to homophobia and violence, as a student body we must come together as one to stand up in solidarity against hate,” the post on a Facebook group said. “The student was wearing a pink shirt so if you are attending MONO tonight, wear a pink shirt!’”
