Taylor Swift wishes crowd a ‘happy Pride Month’ during Eras Tour Show in France

June 4, 2024

Swift encountered rain during her performance at the Groupama Stadium in Lyon but managed to brighten the atmosphere with an energetic rendition of ‘You Need to Calm Down.’

As Taylor Swift tours Europe with her Eras Tour, she took a moment to mark the start of Pride Month in France.

During her show on Sunday, June 2, at Groupama Stadium in Lyon, France, Swift acknowledged the LGBTQ+ community with a special greeting. “Happy Pride Month, Lyon,” Swift expressed to the crowd while performing ‘You Need to Calm Down,’ a song she penned in 2019 as a tribute to the queer community. The stage was illuminated with rainbow lights and decor as fans swayed along, ‘Yahoo! News’ report.

The music video for ‘You Need to Calm Down,’ initially released in the summer of 2019, featured various LGBTQ+ personalities, including the Queer Eye fab five, Hannah Hart, Dexter Mayfield, Adam Rippon, and Todrick Hall.

The rainy weather in Lyon added a unique touch to Swift’s Eras Tour performance that day. Acknowledging the rain, Swift humorously said, “Pluie, rain” (“pluie” means “rain” in French) to the audience.

Videos posted by fans on social media showed the singer's band performing from under tents at the sides of the stage. VIP booths and other areas near the stage were also shielded by tents, while concertgoers donned ponchos to endure the wet conditions.

“We have officially had a rain show tonight, and that is set,” Swift proclaimed before her performance of ‘Champagne Problems.’ “That is permanent. It doesn't matter if it doesn't rain again.”

Staying true to her tradition of surprising her audience with two additional songs each night, Swift delighted the Lyon crowd by playing a mix of ‘The Prophecy’ from her album 'The Tortured Poets Department’’ and ‘Long Story Short’ from ‘evermore.’

For her second set of surprise songs later in the show, she performed a blend of ‘You’re on Your Own Kid’ from ‘Midnights’ and ‘Fifteen’ from her 2010 album ‘Speak Now.’

While Swift's boyfriend, Travis Kelce, has visited her in Europe during her Eras Tour, he remained in the U.S. during her show in Lyon. Kelce was spotted at the Big Slick Celebrity Weekend in Kansas City, Mo., the previous night along with Jason Sudeikis, Paul Rudd, and Patrick Mahomes, among other celebrities.

At the event, Kelce and Mahomes took part in a comedic skit with Sudeikis, where the actor jokingly asked Kelce about the prospect of proposing to Swift.

Despite the playful question, Kelce did not provide a direct response. Swift is scheduled to perform one more show in Lyon before moving on to Edinburgh, Scotland, for a three-night engagement.
