The Crown’s Emma Corrin Opens Up About Their Queer Identity: “I Exist Somewhere In Between”

The Crown’s Emma Corrin has opened up about their sexual identity in a new interview.

Earlier this year, the actor, who starred as Princess Diana in The Crown, posted a photo of themself on Instagram, in which they captioned : “Ur fave queer bride.”

This marked the first time the actor had specifically spoken about their sexual identity.

More recently, Corrin changed their preferred pronouns on Instagram to read she/they, as the Independent reports.

Now, speaking to ITV News, Corrin, who is currently appearing in Anna X in the West End, has spoken about the importance of speaking out regarding queer identities.

“I think visibility is key with these things. I’ve felt it, because my journey has been a long one and has still got a long way to go. I think that we are so used to defining ourselves, and that’s the way, sadly, society works, within these binaries,” Corrin said.

They added: “It’s taken me a long time to realize that I exist somewhere in between and I’m still not sure where that is yet.”

Corrin added that deciding to speak out about their queerness online was “scary and revealing”, adding that they “wasn’t sure whether it was the right thing to do.”

They continued: “But the feedback I got from other people in the queer community has been wonderful. It’s great and it’s something to be celebrated. I still figuring it all out. I think everyone is, and that’s kind of the point.

“There’s no fixed identity, especially for people in the queer community, so it’s going to be an ongoing journey. I hope that sharing it helps people.”

Reviewing Anna Xthe Independent wrote: “Emma Corrin (familiar as Diana in The Crown) and Nabhaan Rizwan (TV’s Informer and Industry) play all the parts ... Corrin and Rizwan have very good spontaneous chemistry.”
