Watch The Adorable Video Created By An Art Student To Celebrate Coming Out To Her Dad

Loughborough University Fine Art student, Amy Begent, has created a stop-motion animation to celebrate her father’s support when she came out to him as bisexual.

The narration of the animation comes from a poem Amy wrote about her life growing up. Her dad was a central figure. Amy stated: “It is an ode to self-acceptance and an ode to my dad in aiding that process.”

The animation is titled ‘Spud’, a nickname her father gave her. According to ‘Loughborough University’, coming out to her father Amy used a drawing which she put in his wardrobe where she wrote: “Thanks for opening the door, it’s about time I come out.” In the animation Amy has used puppets which were inspired by her drawing, which she made from scratch along with the set, before she started filming and editing.

Talking about her project and how personal it is Amy said: “Sharing something so personal is really scary and it’s like coming out all over again. It’s scary but it’s liberating.

“I would say to people that are thinking about coming out or are scared to that it is very important to do it when you’re ready and it’s something to be very proud about.”
