3,000 Weddings in Taiwan Since Same-Sex Marriage Introduced
After becoming the first Asian country to legalise same-sex marriage, there have been 2,939 same-sex weddings in the country.
928 same-sex marriages were concluded between men, and 2,011 between women, ‘Taiwan News’ report. Geographically, the largest number took place in New Taipei City, namely 614, followed by 484 in Taipei City and 396 in Kaohsiung City.
LGBT+ rights activists are currently campaigning to legalise same-sex marriage between a Taiwanese citizen to a partner from a country where same-sex marriage is not yet legalised.
