Lesbian Couple Gets Married On Sidewalk While Social Distancing
Lesbian couple Reilly Jennings and Amanda Wheeler decided not to let the COVID-19 pandemic take away one of the most special day in their lives. Although most industries, including the wedding industry, are taking a major hit right now, this loving couple decided to take matters in their own hands and make their dream of getting married, true.
As reported by ‘Out’, the couple shared a clip where they stand on a sidewalk as a marriage officiant read a passage from Gabriel Garcia Marquez's epic ‘Love In The Time Of Cholera’.
“We were supposed to get married in October,” Jennings wrote to Instagram. “The reality of that happening in our current climate seemed slim. Amanda’s business closed and everything has just blown up.” So, they found another solution.
As Jenning says, the couple got their marriage license and was about to go to the courthouse when the mayor closed the marriage bureau. Luckily enough, a friend of the couple Matt Wilson was able to marry the pair and that’s exactly what they did. Keeping the necessary social distancing intact, the couple was able to share their special day with the neighborhood and some friends.
“What a day,” Jenning continued. “Amidst the uncertainty and despair we all feel right now, marrying the love of my life in the most NYC moment was perfect. I’ve waited 4 years to call [Amanda] my wife and this was all just the cherry on top of the love I feel every day.”
