Starbucks Ad Launches Powerful Campaign In Support Of Trans People

Starbucks have just released an ad to support trans charity ‘Mermaids’.

The ad follows a trans man in different situations in his everyday life where his deadname Jemma is used.

After he goes to Starbucks and is asked for his name, to be written on his cup, he says James. James smiles and the words ‘every name’s a story’ appear on the screen.

This ad is part of a campaign with the hashtag #whatsyourname aiming to encourage others to share their own stories.

Starbucks are also selling special edition mermaid cookies to raise money for trans kids charity Mermaids, according to ‘Metro’.

Susie Green, CEO of Mermaids, said: “The funds raised through #whatsyourname will allow us to make a meaningful change to our helpline that supports young trans people and their families who are so desperately in need of access to information and reassurance.”

Starbucks received Chanel’s 4 Diversity in Advertising Award for this campaign.
