Creator Of Children’s Animated Series Battled For Years To Include Lesbian Wedding

‘Steven Universe’, by animator Rebecca Sugar became the first mainstream American children’s animated series to feature a lesbian wedding, ‘Reuters’ report.

The show was for her a way for to support children who felt “alienated” by gender stereotypes in traditional cartoons.

Sugar, who identifies as bisexual, said that she had to battle for years to include the lesbian wedding in her show and that it took years of work for her because of sensitivities around LGBT+ content in programs aimed at children.

We are held to standards of extremely bigoted countries. It took several years of fighting internally to get the wedding to happen, she told the Thomson Reuters Foundation by phone.

There are people who see what were doing as insidious and ... theyre ignorant.

So much bigotry is based on the idea that (LGBT+ content) is something inherently adult, which is entirely false.
